Part of being a photographer is building your brand. Sure you have take great pictures, that’s a given but in todays world it’s all about brand. Are you cool or quirky? Are you outgoing or are you shy? Are you a bad ass or nerd? There are no right or wrong answers. The cool, out going bad ass is no better then the quirky, shy, nerd. Clients are looking for a connection. Especially brides looking to hire their wedding photographer; consider that a wedding photographer is going to be with a couple all day, (oh ya, it just so happens it’s the most important day of their life together!) I’m very confident in who I am as a person and as a photographer but I still struggle with how I should package (brand) myself to my clients. As an example: Last year I wanted to separate myself from the all the other photographers in my area by using a kind of in your face, shock value campaign “Who the F@#K is Brian Reilly Photography”
The funny thing is I never really used it anywhere. Not sure why. Was it because I wasn’t as much of a bad ass (lol) as I thought I was or because I was afraid of offending some mother looking for maternity pics of her little angel? Still not sure what the answer is but it did lead my to understanding that I want the kind of clients that I’m going to enjoy working with and that are going to enjoy working with me.
